Feeling Thankful...Waiting for our referral

We received good news today! Our Dossier is out of review and has been submitted in Haiti along with a special letter to IBESR. So now we wait (probably 6+ months) to receive our referral and travel invitation from the Haitian government, but today is ONE step closer and we are thankful!

Also,
-We had such a wonderful for response to our Christmas Ornament fundraiser. Within a day and a half we had sold almost ALL of the ornaments.

-Please pray that we rest in Christ as we wait for something that we would LOVE to expedite!

-This may be my last update until after Christmas (unless we get some great news I need to share :-) ) so MERRY CHRISTMAS!

HE is good and HIS will is perfect!

Christmas Ornaments from the Heart

Ohhh waiting....some days I am really good at it. Some days I REALLY struggle. To save a detailed explanation, we are waiting on word from IBESR (Haiti Social Services) before we can move to the next step (which also comes with more waiting). My struggles come when my birth children really have a need. When Molly's feelings get hurt at school or when Linc has a fight with the side walk and they need a mother's love to make things better my heart has an extra hurt for my children in Haiti. During these times I realize how much children need their own big person to call Mom or Dad. I think about how badly I want to be the comforter to my children in Haiti and I can't yet. I also find waiting difficult when I see how much the kids LOVE chasing their dad through the house or listening to him read. Don't get me wrong, I know how precious every second is with Molly and Lincoln and I value it, but still.... knowing that our other children are missing it makes me a little sad. In the waiting I find peace knowing that God is in control and that we truly believe His timing is perfect. He is grooming us to be the family that He needs us to be for our children.

In the meantime as we wait for our family to be complete, I think about all of these precious women in Haiti who desperately want to keep and mother their children but for economic reasons have to give them up. For most women in the U.S. this is incomprehensible. We may know women who depend on government assistance or other family members to help take care of their children, but very few (hopefully none) of us know a woman who has watched her children starve to death because of the lack of ability to feed them. This is the reason many children are abandoned in Haiti, not because of a lack of love, but because of love. These mothers and fathers want their children to have a chance to survive, a chance at life. Because this is so common in Haiti, non-profits have been organized to help employ these talented women and men to keep their children rather than having to terminate rights through an orphanage.

As a fundraiser for our adoption we are selling Christmas ornaments made by these special moms and dads who want to parent their children. The artisans have been paid for their work so from each ornament sold half of the profit goes into our adoption account and half goes back into the program to keep these artisans working.  These ornaments are made with great purpose and the love of parents who know what it means to lose a child in uncontrollable circumstances. These ornaments will be beautiful on your tree or make a perfect gift for someone else. It will serve as a great reminder to pray for those with struggles we can't really understand.

Please pray for us as we prepare to make a home for our children.
Pray that programs like the Apparent Project continue to have a market (people like you and me) to keep families together!

Each beautiful ornament is $8. Please share this with anyone you think might be interested in helping to sustain current families and create future families through adoption. You can message me or email me at amycarolinefitzgerald@gmail.com if you have questions or would like to purchase.

Update

It has been a while since our last update, but I have continued to put it off in hopes that we would have more concrete information to share. However, I feel like I need to catch our prayer warriors up on how to pray a little more specifically.

When God called us to adopt from Haiti we were told innumerable times that the Haiti process is very long and FULL of uncertainties. We understand that those uncertainties do not exist for God, that He has this journey mapped out and that His plan and HIS timing are perfect.

Since we last updated we have entered and exited legalization in Haiti. YAY!  We are currently waiting to enter IBESR (Haiti Social services). It is during this phase that we will be matched with the child/children that become Fitzgerald's. There have been a few changes since the beginning of our process and one is specific to this phase.  This change could significantly alter our plans, but we know that changes in Haiti's laws can't stop what God plans to do in our lives or the lives of our future children.

Please PRAY that God will prepare our hearts to move forward in whatever way He chooses to use us.
Please PRAY that we continue to have spirits of peace.
Please PRAY for Molly and Lincoln- they are excited to welcome new sibling and they pray for them every night.

It is my hope that soon I will be informing you that we have been submitted to IBESR. From that point it could be months before we hear anything else, but we completely trust God's timing. We are constantly looking for ways that God is preparing us to be the family that this child/children need us to be.

Adoption Update :-)

After a couple of recent conversations with friends I was reminded that we are not alone in this process and that I should be sharing the small victories with our supporters. This summer has been busy and productive. We have explained before the mass amounts of paperwork that accompany an adoption. Well...since we have collected all of our documents they have been notarized, certified, authenticated, and NOW they have been successfully translated and legalized (in the United States)!!! The translation and legalization happened in July. We are very excited and prayed hard that there wouldn't be any bumps in this process and there were zero! Our international social worker said that our agency would be sending our paperwork to Haiti next week! Our original goal was mid-August, but who are we to argue with God's timing. :-)  Thank you to those who have joined us in prayer. I truly believe God hears and responds to our prayers. There are still several more steps before we have an official match. The next step is for our paperwork to be legalized by the Haitian government. Please pray that the process moves as seamlessly as the rest of our process. Pray for the individuals who handle our paperwork and have to make decisions concerning our case.
For those of you praying with us:
-pray for the care givers of the orphans in Haiti
-pray that Joey and I are attentive to God as he prepares us to parent under unique circumstances
-pray that Molly and Lincoln continue to grow in the knowledge of Christ and have hearts for their                new siblings
-pray our children in Haiti feel God's peace that He has a  family waiting for them

One of those days/ Crazy feelings

So...last week was a busy week for us in our adoption. On Wednesday I drove from the Ware County Courthouse to the Brooks County Courthouse and then back to the Clinch County Courthouse to have 19 documents authenticated (the clerk of court writes a letter stating that our notaries are legitimate). Then on Friday my wonderful friend Renee' shows up at my house at 6 am to go with me to Atlanta to have our documents authenticated at the state level (the Sec of State says that the clerk of court is legit), only she would not ride with me...she insisted she drive me in her car, with her gas money (turned out to be about 10 round trip)...what a great friend! Well...before we went to Atlanta we had to stop by our caseworkers house in Albany to pick up some notarized documents and then meet another caseworker who had our official homestudy. After a few slight detours we made it to the Secretary of State's office and after about 25 minutes and some really intense anxiety our documents were authenticated. While leaving the Sec of  State's office we ran into Mr. Bridge's, a friend of Renee', who works for the DOE. He very kindly bought us lunch and offered some very kind words of encouragement. It was a nice surprise. We had a great trip home listening to some great old music and even detoured to look around at Andersonville Prison (Nerd fun). At the end of that long day God reminded me of what it means to have great people in my life!

Needless to say I was very anxious to get these documents in the mail to our agency. However, there have been a few new developments in the Haiti system and our international social worker suggested we wait a few days to send in our documents and fees (there are some new ones we didn't know about).

Then came my CRAZY feelings...

I have really had a chance to reflect. For the first time in a while I am not at all anxious. However, its been an emotional day...now I am not a very emotional person...sometimes anxious, but not emotional. I have realized that lately I have been carrying around this tinge of guilt that our process has gone so smoothly. I know that sounds CRAZY, but I read and hear all of these stories about how much people struggle and I feel bad that we haven't. So today, with the news that we must keep our documents (that I worked so hard to finish) makes me almost thankful. Again, crazy I know, but its how I feel. I know that God is in control and I know that we have a very long way to go in this process so this is NOT be the last holdup. I am thankful for such a great agency and great social workers. I'm thankful for feeling some new emotions in this process even if it is that I'm sad that my paperwork isn't being overnighted for translation to get us a step closer to knowing our babies. I'm thankful for the $27,000 we have in our adoption account and I'm thankful that I know God will provide the $23,000 that we are lacking!  I'm thankful for a God who makes Himself so evident through His word and His people!!! Please continue to pray for Me, Joey, Molly and Lincoln and our TWO children (yes...unless God changes the plans there are two kiddos) in Haiti! God is GOOD and He gives peace that passes all understanding!

Successful Fundraiser

The last month has been a roller coaster for our family. Satan has made if clear that he is out to destroy what God has set in motion, but as always in the lives of His children, God is faithful. A few weeks ago we received more information on our adoption process than we thought we would have this early, but the last few weeks have slowed down and I have to remind myself that this is a marathon not a 5K (unfortunately). We are SO close to finishing our paper work and having everything authenticated and translated to submit to our orphanage. So maybe...I will be able to make a post that paperwork is complete within a few weeks!

This past weekend we were reminded that we are not in this process alone. When God calls His children to do something He provides to make it happen! Our family hosted a 5K as a fundraiser for our adoption. It was my hope that after our expenses for the event that we would make around $1000-$1500. Well...God had bigger plans (as usual) for this event. Because of the help of a VERY special family that God sent our way and the help of many friends in GA and NC, we were able to make around $5000 on the 5K!!! This is huge considering that our adoption cost have increased from around $34,000 to around $50,000 (the increase is the orphanage fee for the second child). These number can seem overwhelming UNTIL I remember who is in control. God has allowed our family to go from have $0 in December when we decided He was calling us to adopt, to around $24,000 today. WOW!!!! He is in control and powerful and we are not going to get in His way! When I allow Satan to get in my mind I freak out about how we are going to come up with the rest of the money, but then I am given a peace and reminded that if we are obedient, He will provide. We are incredibly thankful for the support of some many friends and family. We have a long way to go and we covet your prayers. I hope to be able to update on our progress soon!

Below are the awesome sponsors from our 5K! So thankful for all of our runners/walkers/sponsors!!! I will try to post some pics soon.

Adoption Update
I heard from our social worker Emily today, who said that she was finishing our home study up today. That is really exciting. We have a dossier phone meeting on Wednesday to go over all of the documents we need to have prepared to get certified and authenticated at the local and state levels. Joey's birth certificate finally arrived!! YAY! Hopefully, in a few weeks our dossier will be in translation and our home study will be approved by immigration. Please pray that everything keeps moving smoothly. We are blessed to have more information than we thought we would have at this point in the process, but we don't have anything concrete enough to share. We have included in our homestudy that we would be willing to adopt siblings, so our one addition could turn into two!! We are praying for God's direction and provision. Please continue to pray for our family, both in Homerville and Haiti.

Quick update

We are moving right along through the paperwork part of our adoption process. We have ONE more homestudy meeting and we have finished our homestudy. Our wonderful caseworker will write the actual homestudy document that will be sent to immigration and Haiti and we will approve it and YAY we will be closer to submitting our dossier. Right now, I fear that Joey's birth certificate from Minnesota might be our hold up...we are STILL waiting for it. This week we will have our psychological evaluation...I hope he thinks we are sane! :-) After that appointment we only have a few more documents to compile to complete the dossier.

Please continue to PRAY for us and our future family!! God has opened some doors that we are excited about and continue to seek HIS will.

We are SOOOO thankful all of the support we received during our t-shirt fundraiser. We sold 196 t-shirts!!! We are thankful!!

We are now preparing for our Heels for Haiti 5K on May 17th!

T-Shirt Fundraiser

This week we spent a lot of time working on our online Hague International Adoption training (required for our homestudy). I am very happy to say that I completed mine and received my certificate. Joey, however, had a little more trouble staying focused and still has a few hours of training before he completes his. And yes...I do remind him regularly that I successfully completed the assignment before he did! We have a few more tasks to complete before we finish the Homestudy. We have two more meetings with our casework and hopefully we will be done by mid to late April and we will begin compiling documents for our dossier. The dossier must be complete and accepted in Haiti before we can be matched with our child.

We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support we have received from people who just want to help. We have had several very generous people give to us financially this week and for that we are incredibly thankful. We have also had numerous people tell us they are praying for our family and our child and for that we are equally grateful! It is our prayer that our child is being hugged and loved until we can get him/her home.

This week we will begin selling our adoption t-shirts as a fundraiser for the process. We will be selling them from now until April 8th. Hopefully, they will be printed by April 17th. The cost of adoption is not something we consider a barrier, because we know God will provide and He has! The t-shirt is shown below. It will be stone blue with navy writing. The price of the t-shirt is $15.

Our biggest request from all who are reading this is to pray! Please pray specifically for our child, but also pray for our beautiful biological children as they plan to adjust to a new sibling. Pray that as our paperwork moves through the system that God will move on the hearts of those in administrative positions to work efficiently for the sake of our child.

Amy

Homestudy Visit and Immigration receipt

Today we had a Homestudy visit and checked a few more items off of our Homestudy to-do list. Our case work is awesome! We have had a great week in terms of our adoption. The week started out by us receiving our receipt from the immigration office, which is really important because we had to be pending by April 1st in order to be grandfathered in as a I600 family. I was getting nervous because we hadn't heard anything, but we are good and now we are waiting to receive our appointment for immigration fingerprinting in Atlanta. Another item of praise comes in the form a great financial gift. A couple of weeks ago, Joey and I shared our adoption story at a marriage seminar and the leader of the seminar graciously allowed people to donate to our adoption through their non-profit. We knew very few people at the seminar and through God's leading, people donated $2100 to our family. This is a HUGE!! I haven't mention the cost of the process, because I know God has called us and will provide, but the total cost (domestic, international, travel) is around $34,000 and for two school teachers (and for most people) that's a lot of money. But we know that God knows our salary and adoption costs and He is in control. We have seen his provision already and look forward to how He is working in our lives. Right now we are working on getting a T-shirt fundraiser together and we are planning a 5k for May 17th. We have been so blessed by the support of people who have said they will come run and celebrate this process with our family. We are thankful to be in service to such a GREAT God.

Amy

Submitting to immigration

I have not had a chance to make any updates lately but we have been busy working on Homestudy paperwork and getting our immigration forms ready to mail. The envelope is sealed and ready to send to the immigration office tomorrow. We are working on a deadline because Haiti has recently become a Hague country with means that the laws about adoption will be changing. We are trying to get our paperwork in to be grandfathered into the old system (I-600). Our agency says that as long as our immigration paperwork is pending by April 1 we will be okay. Our immigration cannot be approved until our homestudy is complete, so it will be a few months before we hear anything official from immigration. If we are approved under I-600 laws we must sign our I-600 forms in Haiti by April 1, 2016.

The Homestudy is quite a process and is very time consuming. We have been working on getting clearances and fingerprints from the GBI and FBI. Everyone in the family has to have a physical, so tomorrow the kids go for theirs and Joey and I will be having ours done soon. We have a lot of education to do within the next few weeks. We are hoping to have our last homestudy meeting during spring break, then it will just be a waiting game for all of our paperwork to clear to bring our homestudy to a close. After our homestudy is complete we will compile our dossier (everything Haiti might need to know about us) to send to Haiti for approval.

In terms of a timeline: chances are it will be around this time next year when we are matched with a child. From that point it could take another 9-12 months for our child to be able to travel home with us.

God has really placed a burden on my heart to pray for the well-being of our child prior to his/her arrival into our family. We have been praying for those who care for our child before we can bring him/her home, whether it be biological parents or caretakers at the orphanage. Please join us in praying for the very formidable period of our child's life when we can't be there for him/her.

First paperwork submitted (and a Mary Kay party!)

This has been a very busy week, but the good kind of busy. I'll only hit two of the big highlights. On Monday I had a Mark Kay party! I know you are thinking...seriously...Amy had a Mary Kay party!! But my wonderful friend Ashley told her mom, Ms. Carol, about our adoption plans and she offered to have a party and allow our family to have 50% of the profits from the party. I thought this was such a nice gesture and couldn't pass it up. I was extremely humbled by my friends who sacrificed their Monday night to come out and buy makeup to support our adoption. Many of them had been at work all day and I know they (and their kids) were tired, but that didn't keep them away. Several friends who couldn't make it to the party called in their orders which was so thoughtful. We had a great time together and I even put on some makeup! I sat for a long time after everyone left feeling overwhelmed by the support and sacrifice of the friends God has blessed me with.

Major Highlight: On Wednesday, God blessed us to be able to make our first payment and submit our first set of paperwork to Lifeline Children!!  We are now waiting for our first phone interview before our Homestudy begins. We are thankful for His blessings and praying for the child He has for our home.

 Abandoned,

Application Accepted

Our application has been accepted by our agency! We have received our Welcome Call and have been assigned a social worker, Emily. Emily will manage our case until we have brought home our son/daughter. Within the next few weeks we will make our first agency payment and send in our first batch of paperwork. We are excited about what God has in store. Hopefully, we will start our homestudy within the next month or so.

Application Submitted

We submitted our application to Lifeline to begin the process to adopt the Haitian child God has for our family. God has been working in our hearts and through His direction we have started the process a little sooner than we had planned. I'm sure that on this journey God will change OUR timeline many times to match His. We should hear from the agency this week and gain some more information on when our Home Study will begin. Our goal is to have the paper work side of the process completed by Christmas 2014. This is just a goal and might change as our journey begins. Please pray for us to follow in His path as we spend the next few years of our lives preparing for our new addition. We have been very humbled by the call and accept the God is faithful to provide for those who follow His commands.
